The man who killed two maternity ward nurses in a shooting near Methodist Dallas Medical Center’s delivery rooms on Saturday morning was an ex-convict on parole who was wearing an ankle monitor at the time of the shooting.
Police said they arrested 30-year-old Nestor Hernandez after a Methodist Health System officer shot and injured him at Methodist Dallas Medical Center.
At the time of the shooting, he was on probation for aggravated robbery and was wearing an active GPS ankle monitor, police said.
Hernandez was taken to another local hospital for treatment, the Dallas Morning News reported. He now faces murder charges.
Texas police rushed to the hospital on North Beckley Avenue just before noon after calls were received about a shooting at the medical facility.

Police told WFAA that the suspect was shot by a Methodist Police officer and taken into custody.
Police officials confirmed that the two victims were nurses from the hospital’s maternity ward, which police found near the hospital’s maternity and delivery area.
One was pronounced dead immediately, the other later died.
“The Methodist Health System Family is heartbroken at the loss of two of our beloved team members,” the hospital said in a statement.
“Our entire organization mourns this unimaginable tragedy.

“We appreciate the support of the community during this difficult time.”
Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson said he mourned the victims and said the city “will be there for them as we mourn and seek swift justice.”
The Dallas Police Department Homicide and Special Investigations Unit are on scene investigating the shooting and assisting hospital police.
Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia called the shooting “a heinous failure of our criminal justice system.”

The incident happened less than an hour before the hospital was scheduled to begin a tour of its new Linda and Mitch Hart Breast Center for breast cancer survivors
A hospital spokesman confirmed the medical center would be hosting a tour of its new Linda and Mitch Hart Breast Center for breast cancer survivors less than an hour before the shooting.
The shooting resulted in the event being canceled and the hospital being placed on lockdown.
The victims were on the fourth floor of the hospital building.
