Thousands of glamorous bettors have made their way to celebrate a big day of racing after cheering on their picks at Sydney’s Royal Randwick Racecourse.
It was a flashy affair on and off the track on Saturday with a full day of 10 races on Ladies Day for the coveted Moët and Chandon Spring Champion Stakes Day.

While it rained torrentially in Melbourne and Brisbane, it lingered in Sydney, where ebullient racegoers took advantage of the clear skies to spend the day enjoying a drink and a punt with friends.
Revelers descended on Randwick Racecourse in the city’s eastern suburbs in an eclectic array of fashions to match Sydney’s only ladies’ day of the spring racing season.
There were princesses in pink, complete with tiaras and wobbly heels.
At the end of the day, heels came undone as comfort took precedence over formality and a dry road underfoot helped
It was pouring rain elsewhere on the east coast but bettors took advantage of clear skies in Sydney on Saturday to bring out their summer festival attire

There were pantsuits, picnic dresses, and fashion more suited to an outdoor rave.
At the end of the day, comfort was a priority for many as the celebrations drew to a close and the post-race weather was celebrated across the city.

On the circuit, champion jockey Hugh Bowman rode Sharp’N’Smart to narrowly win the day’s big race.
The horse, trained by Graeme and Deborah Rogerson, triumphed in dramatic fashion in the $2 million Group 1 feature race, the Moët and Chandon Spring Champion Stakes.
Anthony and Sam Freeman’s Elliptical, ridden by Blake Shinn, came a very close second, ahead of Anthony Cummings’ She’s Extreme, driven by Glyn Schofield.
The 2,000 meter run is considered one of the world’s best for three-year-old stayers.
The ninth race, the $2 million invite, was won by Kerrin McEvoy on John O’Shea’s pledge of success.
Later in the evening, Australian electronic music group Miami Horror performed at the free and exclusive After the Last concert for racegoers.
