This is the shocking moment a car thief robbed a stolen Range Rover after scaring a police chase that killed the owner’s beloved Doberman dog.
Nicholas Oakland, 30, was found guilty of dangerous driving, aggravated vehicle seizure, disqualified driving, needlessly suffering a protected animal and driving without insurance.
Oakland was jailed for 19 months and disqualified for three years and nine months for driving. at York Crown Court today on October 20, 2022.

Oakland kept up the pace the A163 as it meanders dangerously through heavy rush hour traffic.
He nearly caused head-on collisions with other innocent members of the public, forcing motorists to take evasive action.
A police Stinger site was quickly set up just outside North Duffield and a short time later the Range Rover crashed and rolled in a field. Officials quickly arrested Oakland at the scene of the crash.

Jake – that’s the dog’s name – stayed in the vehicle for the pursuit and He then fled the vehicle after it overturned.
After officers arrested the suspect, the police helicopter focused on the dog, which was half a mile from the stolen vehicle.
A vet was quickly rushed to the scene, but the dog died of his injuries a few weeks later.
Traffic Sergeant Julian Pearson, of North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Group, said: “Driving in Oaklands posed a serious risk to other road users as he drove the stolen vehicle in an appalling manner. Fortunately, with the help of specialized police resources, we were able to quickly stop the vehicle in less than 30 minutes after it was reported stolen.
“He had no regard for the safety of the family dog, which was in the back of the vehicle. It was imperative that we located Jake quickly after the collision and ensured he received prompt veterinary attention and returned to his owners.
“This case touched everyone involved in the investigation and we all wished for Jake to make a full recovery from his injuries. Unfortunately, this was not to be and Jake passed away a few weeks later. Jake was a family member, a loved one and will be greatly missed.’
The victim, Matthew Wilson, Jake’s owner, commented: “The last few months have been extremely traumatic for our family.
“Jake was not just a family pet, but a trained service dog, companion, and my best friend.
“We had traveled to over 22 countries together and planned more adventures before his life came to an end.
“We continue to miss our boy Jake every day and it is still difficult to understand the needless hurt and suffering he endured which ultimately resulted in the loss of his life.
“We would like to thank North Yorkshire Police for being so supportive and caring throughout this process and for ensuring that justice was done for Jake.”
