Though the series depicts the breakup of his marriage to Diana, King Charles wisely follows in his mother’s footsteps: “Never complain, never explain.”
Judi Dench – who called the series cruelly unfair – has urged Netflix to wear a note before each episode stating it is a “fictionalized drama”. But their protests fall on deaf ears.
Admittedly, underneath the new series’ trailer is a tiny disclaimer in lowercase that reads, “Inspired by real events, a fictional dramatization.” But nobody reads that. The fact is, viewers are tricked into believing this stuff is real.

It’s a series that portrays the Windsors as utterly dysfunctional and a monarchy on the brink of collapse. It’s a shamefully distorted version of what happened to real people, many of whom are still alive.
In one scene, Charles tells his mother, “If we were an ordinary family and social services came to visit, they would have taken care of us and thrown you in jail.”
Scenes in which Charles conspired with former Prime Minister John Major to force the Queen to abdicate were described by Major as “a barrelload of malicious nonsense”. The trailer features images of Diana seemingly lifeless swimming in a pool, with voiceover. . . “I never had a chance.”
Elsewhere it says: “The royal family is in a real crisis! Have royal scandals ruined the country’s reputation?’ Judging by the four billion people who watched the Queen’s funeral worldwide and the 37 million in the UK alone, the answer is a resounding no. Not that Netflix would tell you.

If Hollywood royalty like Judi, as well as an ex-PM, can’t stop these hurtful untruths, perhaps there is one person who could – Prince Harry.
It is his family, his father and mother, his beloved grandmother, who are portrayed so cruelly. If he had any sympathy, which he keeps telling us is so important, he would step in and demand that Netflix – which pays him and Megs millions – set the record straight and show a disclaimer.

The cold hard truth
If there’s one good thing about our heating crisis, it’s that we can no longer assume that we have an inalienable right to heat our homes above 20 degrees and walk around in t-shirts and jeans in the middle of winter. As sad as it saddens me to say it, after the disasters of Theresa May and the leadership of Liz Truss, I cannot imagine the Tory party or the country electing another woman Prime Minister in my lifetime.

Perhaps a lesson for our hapless police officers from Germany, where protesters taped themselves to the floor of a Volkswagen factory. Despite requests for refreshments and access to toilets, the factory workers simply turned off the lights and heat and left them there all night, sticking to their policies until the police came to arrest them the next day.
