In one video, Alison, a student at the University of Texas at Austin, shared that she was sexualized in church when she was between the ages of 13 and 17.
She captioned the video: “When I was 13 to 17 I walked into a church thinking I was seducing the pastor for wearing a pencil skirt. So the pastor’s wife pulled me aside and called me an adulterous woman, which made the pastor desire me. They sent me to pray.’
The video has been viewed over 1.6 million times, prompting others to jump on the bandwagon and create their own videos.
A user known as @eskelite shared that she left her religion when her fiancé broke off the engagement.
“When my fiancé called off our engagement and I realized I had wasted my entire early 20s dating a youth pastor,” the caption read.
Alisha Magia, 18, shared her own recreation of the trend in a viral video with the caption: “When I was 11, a 35-year-old man at church said the way I dressed in church made him to ‘sin’ ”and I was the one who got into trouble.’
And it seems Alisha and Alison are not alone as many other users revealed that they left their religion when they were sexualized as children.
One user, known as @Themouseinyourhouse, 23, said: “When the well-known creeper church leader told me, [who was 11 years old]my dress was too short and I got in trouble for telling him that Jesus says to pluck out his eyes if my clothes bother him.’
In recent years, reports of child sexual abuse within the Church have made headlines.

Shortly after the first reports of abuse, the cover-up by church officials and Catholic priests became apparent, sparking an epidemic of denial of sexual abuse in the place of worship as churchgoers were forced into a sin of silence.
According to the Pew Research Center, about nine percent of people say they have attended a service in the past five years in which a clergyman or other religious leader was accused of sexual misconduct in one or more of the following ways: an extramarital affair (6 percent ), sexual abuse of a child (four percent), verbal sexual harassment (four percent), or sexual abuse of an adult (three percent).
And while many users shared their experiences as children in the church, others revealed that they left the church after a tragic loss.
Anna, 21, revealed she decided to leave her church when a woman told her after her father’s death: “God has a reason for everything”.
Sharing a similar experience, Sara claimed that she and her family suffered at the hands of the Church when her mother died of cancer.
“My mother, who found out she had cancer six years ago, died and decided to spend thousands of dollars on ‘Christian energy work’ to ‘heal’ herself instead of going to the doctor.
“Keep the cancer a secret [from] everyone but me, she held it over my head as a threat since i was 11, everyone was begging her to get real help and she said she already had it.
“Eventually the church says they’re going to pay for her treatment, and she goes to the hospital only to die the next day, and the billionaire church says, ‘just kidding, you have to pay for this,’ and now there are thousands from my family dollars in debt.’
Another user, known as @mcladybug, revealed that she quit her religion after realizing she was gay.
“Me in church camp when the cute girl who dyed her hair to look like Hayley Williams walked in,” she captioned her video.
And while these users are making a social media trend out of their disbelief, according to recent research, many others across the country are doing the same.
According to Pew Research Center, About 29 percent of adults are religious “nothings” or people who identify themselves as atheists, agnostics, or “nothing special.”

Self-proclaimed Christians of all kinds, including Protestants, Catholics, members The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Orthodox Christians make up 63 percent of the adult population, up from 75 percent a decade ago.
Over the past two decades, the number of Americans who do not identify with any religion has increased from eight percent in 1998-2000 to 13 percent in 2008-2010 and 21 percent in the past three years, according to Gallup.
Users flooded the comments section with similar experiences, all of which revealed these shocking incidents that contributed to their abandonment of the religion.
“I was 13 when my pastor told me not to wear pants for the same reason, and my grandma told him to tell women in tank tops that,” said one user.
“Yes, being told my dad attacked me and not forgiving him for being as bad as the other one didn’t make me stay a Christian,” added another user.
Referring to the videos, one user said, “That was literally the first thing that made me question my religion.”
Another user wrote, “I played along for years before realizing that people had fully committed to the faith and realized I was an atheist.”
