Jennifer Coolidge has said she felt she “didn’t get a lot of opportunities” in Hollywood as she reflected on three decades in the show business industry.
The 61-year-old actress cryptically said that there are “a lot of people who can really rain on your parade” as she struggled to be taken seriously in the acting world.
Jennifer made the revelations during a candid conversation with DuJour magazine as she chronicled her success, from concerns she’d only be cast as an extra to winning her first Emmy for The White Lotus.

Having been in Hollywood for the past three decades, she told the publication, “I had big thoughts. Firmly. I figured I could come out of my small town and have a starring role in something like Pretty Woman.
“I remember seeing that movie and thinking, ‘I want this for myself. I truly believe that to be successful in this business, you have to have such crazy thoughts.
“But I’ve worked with a lot of people and those beliefs have been crushed and I haven’t aspired to anything bigger. There are a lot of people who can really rain on your parade at times and I wasn’t given many chances.

She added: “I was starting to think that I really will be no more than the third prostitute turned down by the vile cowboy at the brothel that was one of mine [early] parts. And I had to buy the plane ticket [to fly to set] in San Francisco itself.’
For the accompanying shoot, she wowed in a busty black dress as she made an animated facial expression, before donning a chic white dress for the cover photo.
In another picture, she showed a busty display in a white and black tight midi dress while lounging on a sofa.

In September, Jennifer won an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for her role in The White Lotus.
Speaking about how she felt afterwards, she told the publication, “I was in a state of shock, I couldn’t remember my own name. I felt like I was having a full fledged anxiety attack.
“It was embarrassing that I didn’t whip out everyone’s names but I didn’t expect to be up there. I swelled up in that dress and I think I had an allergic reaction.

“For all the years that I didn’t think something like this would ever come, it was all one big, inarticulate moment.”

Steve Zahn, Lukas Gage, Fred Hechinger and Kekoa Kekumano and Molly Shannon also performed.
The show was the big winner at this year’s Emmy Awards, taking home a whopping 10 gongs including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.
Jennifer is best known for her roles as Jeanine “Stifler’s Mom” Stifler in the American Pie film series and as Paulette Bonafonté Parcelle in the Legally Blonde film series.
