League of Legends jungler Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski has announced that he will be leaving G2 Esports ahead of the 2023 season.
Jankos, 27, broke the news in a YouTube video on Saturday, revealing he still wants to compete “domestically at the highest level” and that G2 have come to the decision that they want to introduce a new jungler next year .
I’m still under contract, but after 5 years at G2 I was able to explore my options for 2023. It’s been a long road with ups and downs, but eventually everything has to come to an end

“I still want to compete,” Jankos said in the video, “and I had no intention of retiring. I didn’t think about leaving G2 either, but then G2 also made the decision that they want to try another jungler next year. In my opinion it makes perfect sense. Why do I think that? It’s because I’ve been in this org for about five years now.
“I feel like I’ve been part of this team for so long that a change of environment can actually be beneficial for me. Like changing teams, I feel like I really want to do my best wherever I end up. The last few years that I’ve left in me, it’s going to be good for me to play with different players, maybe one another organization just to try something different. Hopefully this will help me grow.
As mentioned by Jankos, the move caps a nearly five-year run with the European organization, where he has established himself as perhaps the greatest European jungler of all time. At G2, Jankos accumulated two LEC MVP awards, 13 All-Pro Team selections, five LEC titles, the 2019 Mid-Season Invitational Trophy and three consecutive top 4 finishes at Worlds.

G2 started 2022 with plenty of doubters after picking up Sergen “BrokenBlade” Çelik, Victor “Flakked” Lirola and Raphaël “Targamas” Crabbé. G2 finished first in the LEC Spring Split and second in the Summer Split. G2 also placed in the top four at MSI but fell out in the group stage at Worlds.
“I think my ending with G2 is actually like a good ending,” said Jankos. “I feel like we were both happy. Not so happy we’re leaving, but I just feel like I really did have the best years of my life as a competitor at G2. Leaving the team isn’t like we’re fighting, it’s more like mutuality, like I understand them and they understand me. I think it makes sense from both sides.
