India’s cheapest MG EV will go on sale in 2023.

MG is working on releasing a new mainstream electric vehicle in India that will compete with Tata Motors’s affordable electric vehicles. Tata Motors just came out with the Tata Tiago EV hatchback, which is India’s most affordable electric vehicle (EV). MG wants to compete with Tata’s dominance in the growing electric vehicle (EV) market, so it is getting ready to release a new EV geared toward cities. It is likely to cost between Rs 11 lakh and Rs 15 lakh. India’s cheapest MG EV will go on sale in 2023.

Tata Motors has four electric vehicles on the market right now. These include the new Tata Tiago EV hatchback, the Tata Tigor EV sub-4m compact sedan, the Tata Nexon EV Prime, and the Tata Nexon EV MAX SUV. In India, the market for EVs that cost between Rs 9 lakh and Rs 14 lakh is served by the new Tiago EV and the Tigor EV.

MG to challenge Tata’s EV

MG will challenge Tata’s lead in electric vehicles (EVs) with a new, cheap EV for India.

Rajeev Chaba, President and Managing Director of MG Motor India, told ET that the company wants to keep prices low by making parts in India, especially battery parts. The company plans to sell its cheap electric car in India in the second quarter of 2023, from April to June.

MG also wants to build and grow an ecosystem in the country to serve its EV market. Rajeev also talked about the goals of working with startups to make sure that the country has custom battery chemistry and charging solutions. The top boss also talked about the potential of the country’s EV market and said it will stay strong in the future. MG also wants to make 500 units of its small SUV, the MG ZS EV, each month.

But the MG EV will cost a little more than the Tata Tiago EV when it comes out. Instead, we focus on giving our customers good value and cutting-edge technologies. With our new EV, we want to make our own market segment and offer a unique way to get around cities.

The next EV will probably have more features than the Tata Tiago EV. So, even though MG is trying to make up to 60% of its cars in India, its cheapest EV will still cost more than the aggressively priced Tata Tiago EV.

MG ZS EV
