A suspect is being held at US Army base Fort Belvoir, Virginia, following a “barricade situation.”

The Washington DC bureau’s National Capital Response Squad responded Sunday along with a SWAT team and military police at the scene.

The nature of the “barricade situation” remains unclear, and it is unknown how many people might be involved at this point.

In a statement to WUSA reporter Katie Kyros, the FBI said, “The situation is ongoing and we are unable to comment further at this time.”

Fort Belvoir also tweeted that some of its gates will remain open but drivers are being asked to avoid the area.

The fort is about 20 miles from the nation’s capital.

It is home to more than 145 members and provides services to over 216,050 military, civilian, retiree and family members, according to its website.
