England meet China, Denmark and one of Senegal, Haiti or Chile at next year’s Women’s World Cup
European champions England will face Denmark, China and either Chile, Senegal or Haiti in their 2023 World Cup group but face a tough knockout game with a possible quarter-final against Germany.
Sarina Wiegman’s side avoided a tricky draw against Canada or Brazil in the group stage, but China and Denmark will be no slouches. Their tournament will be held in Australia and New Zealand but England’s draw means they will only play in Australia.
The Lionesses’ first game will be in Brisbane on July 22, but they won’t meet their opponents until February, when the inter-federation play-offs conclude. Chile plays against the winners of Senegal or Haiti and the winner of this tie qualifies for the tournament.

England’s second game, arguably the toughest of the group, takes place against Denmark in Sydney on July 28 before taking on China in Adelaide on August 1.
Should the Lionesses emerge from their group, their round of 16 would face the winners or runners-up of Group B, which includes co-hosts Australia, Canada, Republic of Ireland and Nigeria.
If England top their group and reach the round of 16, they play against the Group H winner or the Group F runners-up.

Germany is expected to top Group H, while Group F runners-up could be Brazil or France. A quarter-final against Germany would be a repeat of the Euro 2022 final, which England won 2-1 after extra time.
Assuming they get through a difficult quarter-final, England would then likely play Group F winners, France or Brazil, or Group B winners, who will likely be Canada, in the semi-finals.
The United States are set to face England in the draw, meaning the two sides could meet in the final should they both go that far.

There are logistical advantages for England when they are in Group D, especially when they finish best. The knockout stage would require less travel as all matches would be held in Sydney – including the final. It will also be an easier route for fans traveling for the tournament.
Elsewhere in the draw, the Republic of Ireland will play Australia, Canada and Nigeria. This will be the nation’s first major tournament after beating Scotland in the play-offs to qualify earlier this month.
The 2019 World Cup final will be repeated in Group E with USA and Netherlands. The USA are the two-time reigning champions and are aiming for an unprecedented third straight World Cup.
