CDC Director Rochelle Walensky Tests Positive for COVID-19: Suffers ‘Mild Symptoms’ Weeks After Boost
The director of the Centers for Disease Control and Presentation confirmed Saturday that Dr. Rochelle Walensky has tested positive for COVID-19 and is showing “mild symptoms”.
Last month, Walensky received her bivalent, omicron-specific COVID-19 booster shot. After the vaccination, she was photographed giving the thumbs up, which was posted in a CVS health tweet, Fox News reported.
The CDC director, along with other health officials, has warned the American public that this winter could bring a surge in COVID-19 infections.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed Saturday that Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky has tested positive for COVID-19 and is showing “mild symptoms”.
A statement issued by CDC said Walensky’s positive test result “is consistent with CDC guidelines” and that “she is isolating at home.”
They also said the CDC director will attend their scheduled meetings virtually.
“CDC executives and close contacts have been notified of her positive test and are taking appropriate steps to monitor her health,” the statement said.

The director, along with other health officials, has warned there could be a surge in COVID-19 infections in the coming winter.

According to the White House, the overall consensus at a recent meeting bringing together federal officials and leading healthcare organizations representing physicians, nurses and physician assistants was “broad agreement that the most important thing for Americans, especially the elderly, can be themselves and their loved ones protect against COVID-19 and serious diseases by promptly receiving an updated COVID-19 vaccine,” Fox News reported.
Before the months were out, Wallensky and other health officials were urging the American public to get the booster.
Last month, the CDC director announced that boosters would provide comprehensive protection against sublines.
“The updated COVID-19 boosters are formulated to better protect against the last circulating COVID-19 variant. They can help restore protection that has waned since the previous vaccination and are designed to provide broader protection against newer variants,” she said.
