A viral TikTok star and transgender activist visited President Joe Biden in the Oval Office to speak about her transition and transgender issues in the US.
Dylan Mulvaney, who uses the app to document her “firsts” as a woman in a series she calls “Girl Days,” announced that she and members of NowThis News would be visiting the White House.
“I’m ready to stand up and show trans people that we’re not going anywhere and that trans kids deserve a chance to be their true selves,” she says in the video, which was posted Thursday and has since garnered over 500,000 likes.
Mulvaney recently faced controversy after many called for a boycott of Ulta Beauty, which she hosted on the brand’s “The Beauty of…” podcast on Oct. 13.
The beauty brand, which has more than 1,200 stores nationwide, drew criticism from some women after declaring on the show that she plans to become a transgender mother.
Mulvaney said she “would like to be a mom someday and I absolutely can,” adding that “the narrative still has a long way to go.”
Mulvaney, who has been living as a woman for less than a year, has been accused of “woman-face” by some feminists on a day-to-day basis.

During a digital campaign titled “The Beauty Of…,” the podcast saw the 25-year-old TikTok star being interviewed by gender-savvy hairstylist David Lopez about “all things girlhood.”
Customers took to social media to slam the podcast, saying the company and the influencer were “trolling women.”
The company defended Mulvaney in an attempt to quell online vitriol.
“At Ulta Beauty, we believe that beauty is for everyone – and we ask that everyone on our channels be treated with respect,” the company wrote in a statement.
The video Mulvaney posted about her time at the White House this week shows her deciding on an outfit – featuring the colors of the transgender flag – before walking up the White House.
“Do you think I’ll just knock on the front door?” she jokingly asks the camera.
Mulvaney shows pictures from inside the building, including a portrait of Michelle Obama, before moving on to a post-meeting debriefing emblazoned over a cookie emblazoned with the president’s seal, which Biden himself gave her.
“The President of the United States gave me a cookie.”
She hasn’t been able to post any more clips, but an interview is expected to be published by NowThis on Sunday night, after which she’ll be able to post more footage.

Mulvaney said interacting with Biden was productive.
“I left with a lot of hope and optimism, not just for trans people, but for a lot of different issues,” she said.
Biden told Mulvaney he watched her series Days of Girlhood.
“It’s kind of epic,” she added. “I’ve had a rough time lately, a lot of darkness, and today was what I needed to move on.
“There is so much darkness in this world. I mean, sometimes the bad actually outweighs the good, but we need to get in the mud now and we’re going to clean up some messes that have been needing cleaning for hundreds of years. And we have to protect each other.”

In her video series, Mulvaney discusses what has become accessible to her as a woman, including finding love, being a performer, having a family and being a mother.
“Now I know I can find love. I know I can still be a performer. I know I can have a family. I want to be a mother one day and I absolutely can.
“There’s a lot of shame, so much stigma. I had this notion of trans people and it was weird because I knew I was trans but I had transphobia of myself.
“I was still judging the community and had to get over it. We have to change it,’ she said.
In her videos, Dylan refers to herself as a “girl” instead of a “woman” because she feels she’ll never have to live her childhood as a girl.
“The term woman scares me. It feels so strong, so confident, so grounded,” she told the Skimm.
“And I don’t feel like that yet. There are times when I feel like a woman, but the term “girl” feels like it lends itself to failing, trying new things, or trying to figure things out. I never became a girl growing up. So now I can claim that word as mine today.’
