The federal court will rule on the Nine Zeitungen case next week

Nearly 11 months after his lengthy trial, Victoria Cross recipient Ben Roberts-Smith will soon learn if his libel case over war crimes reports has been successful.

The former SAS corporal is suing The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Canberra Times in a federal court case over reports in 2018 alleging that he committed war crimes in Afghanistan, including murder and bullying and domestic violence .

The 43-year-old has denied all allegations of wrongdoing while newspapers defended them as true.

The process lasted over a year and ended after eight days of closing speeches on July 27, 2022.

Judge Anthony Besanko will deliver his verdict on June 1, the court announced Thursday afternoon.
