Apex Legends devs are investigating bugs in banning LGBT club tags

Respawn Entertainment is investigating an apparent bug preventing Apex Legends players from using LGBT club tags.

The initial discovery of the bug was reported by u/Mothman_moth on the r/apexlegends subreddit on Friday, causing quite an uproar given the LGBTQ representation in the game’s characters.

In the Reddit thread, Mothman_moth mentioned that the LGBT tag used to be allowed at their older club and that they’ve seen other clubs still be able to use it.

“I suspect that a higher rate of troll clubs reported with the tag may have been restricted,” Mothman_moth wrote. “Based on the comments here, I’m guessing it’s not untypical for Apex players.”

It wasn’t long before Respawn Associate Quality Designer Rico Sanchez chimed in, apparently confirming that the restriction was indeed unintentional.

“I’ll watch this to see what’s going on,” Sanchez wrote.

On Saturday morning, the Reddit mod u/paradoxically locked the thread because its commenters “can’t act as usual.”

At the time of writing, no update has been issued regarding this issue and there is no mention of the bug on the Apex Legends Trello board.

Ultimately, it would be surprising if this issue spilled over into the launch of Season 15: Eclipse, considering Apex’s latest legend, Catalyst, will be the first transgender woman in the game. Apex Legends: Eclipse is scheduled to start on November 1st.
